What Will I be When I Grow Up

If anyone had told me 40 years ago that I would be a Colon Therapist when I grew up, I would have first asked, "What in the heck is that?", and then I would have laughed out loud!!!

I was born and raised in Casper, WY. by two wonderful parents. Their generation taught that bodily functions are just something that is never talked about. That's all fine and good unless you suffer with severe constipation for 35 years of your life and think that it's normal to be that way!

I graduated in 1981 with an Associate Science Degree in Nursing and worked as a Neurological Nurse in two separate hospitals until 1989. By that time I had 3 beautiful children, and had moved to Boise, ID. I changed jobs in hopes that I could have better working hours to be with my children. I took a position working for a M.D. as an office nurse doing Chelation therapy. (Chelation is a form of complementary medicine that is used to prevent arteriosclerosis.) It was here that I learned of alternative and complementary health.

During this time I began experiencing health problems myself. I suffered from PMS approximately 3 weeks out of each month, had cluster migraine headaches, adult acne, night sweats, constipation, and fatigue. When I started to produce breast milk I figured it was time to seek medical advice and made an appointment with an Endocrinologist.

After $500.00 worth of lab tests, I left his office with a separate prescription for every symptom I had, and a diagnosis of depression. No joke, I was certainly depressed now! That evening a good friend phoned and after lamenting to her, she suggested that I go to visit a Colon Therapist in the area. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how a colon irrigation would alleviate a migraine headache or PMS. I was very skeptical, especially being a nurse. I had never heard of Colon Hydrotherapy before. I had been taught that the body would eliminate exactly what it needed on its own, and if you became too concerned about your bowels that you were probably 'anally fixated' and needed to see a counselor. Shortly thereafter, I met my first Colon Therapist, and began a process back to health. Colon Hydrotherapy and all the lifestyle changes I practiced made such a dramatic improvment in my health, I decided to become a therapist. I trained with Dotolo Research Institute and my colon therapist, Opal Solsberry Wright. In 1991 I started my small business, which is now called Wings of Health, Inc. There you have it!

That's why I grew up to be a Colon Therapist. The last eight years have been an adventure to say the least. The world of complementary medicine is certainly an interesting one. We are all truly responsible for our own health. In the search for my own health, I have gained a working knowledge about herbs and essential oils. I have learned to eat healthier, and have incorporated such things as fresh live juices and sprouts into my daily diet. I have been fortunate to train with such people as Hanna Kroeger, Valerie Ann Worwood and Jane Buckle R.N.. I am now certified in clinical aromatherapy.

I hope I get to meet you someday. I'd love to hear your story and assist you in your search for better health.
